MagiKats MagiKats is a new and exciting programme which develops the skills of students of all abilities in maths and English. The programme has two components: The Workshops and The Homework Pack The Workshops Every week the student comes to a workshop. Here they work in a small group of students of a similar age with a mentor. (Maximum size of 8). In the workshop they develop and apply their core skills to the type of work that they may face in school. The Homework Pack Students complete a piece of homework on 5 days a week. The homework develops the student's core skills. For example, a student may be working to master their multiplication tables and so complete worksheets that address multiplication. As well as these they may also have a worksheet developing their ability to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes. (This practises the 5 times table). By adding variety to the homework pack the students do not get bored. The Advantages of MagiKats
The role of the parents Parents must encourage their child to complete the homework pack every week. (Don't worry we provide advice and help on motivating students). They must mark the homework every day. (Don't worry about this either - we provide the parents with the answers and guidance on how to mark). The parents must get their child to the workshops. Times The workshops are held in Chester le Street on Wednesday and Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 4:40 p.m. and from 4:50 until 5:30 p.m. The workshops are held at the Parish Centre in Chester le Street.
